Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) participated in the fourteenth session of the Implementation Review Group and the fourteenth session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Prevention of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) both in-person in Vienna, Austria, and virtually from 12 to 16 June 2023. These meetings provided an opportunity to exchange information and experiences in implementing the UNCAC, discussing best practices, lessons learned, and ongoing challenges in order to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of preventive measures and anti-corruption policies.
Several key topics were discussed during these meetings, including strengthening the role of supreme audit institutions in the prevention of and fight against corruption, the interlinkages between preventive and enforcement approaches, and following-up the special session of the General Assembly on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation.
In his speech, Mr. Khaled Youssef Al-Muzaini, the Director of the Planning and Follow-up Office at Nazaha, affirmed that Kuwait is continuously working towards developing its legislation and updating its procedures in accordance with relevant international provisions, decisions, and recommendations related to enhancing mechanisms and means of preventing and combating corruption. He added that this aligns with the full implementation of the UNCAC and the provisions of other international and regional agreements related to combating corruption and associated crimes, to which Kuwait has ratified or acceded.
Nazaha emphasizes its commitment to optimally implement the UNCAC, as well as all other international agreements and treaties related to combating corruption that are approved, to ensure the promotion of cooperation and participation with countries, regional organizations, and international entities in the field of anti-corruption. This is aimed at achieving the objectives of its establishment-law No. 2 of 2016.
