Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) welcomed the experts of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Antigua and Barbuda and Kyrgyzstan who were reviewing the implementation of the State of Kuwait of Chapter Two “Preventative Measures” and Chapter 5 “Asset Recovery” of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
The UNCAC requires State Parties to review one other’s implementation of its provisions, as part of the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism. This includes conducting a “Country Visit” for experts of the “reviewing” and “reviewed” State Parties, with the assistance of the UNODC.
Apart from this “Country Visit,” Nazaha had previously fulfilled the requirements of the review mechanism. Nazaha completed the “self-assessment list” sent by the UNODC to review the State of Kuwait’s implementation of the UNCAC legislatively, procedurally and institutionally.
The Country Visit was held over 3 days, between 22 and 24 November 2022. During this period, Nazaha’s experts and representatives of Kuwaiti authorities discussed several matters, exchanged information, and responded to the visiting experts’ requests for additional information, data, and statistics. The purpose of this meeting was to clarify and explain issues related to the State of Kuwait’s response to the “self-assessment checklist.”
In preparing self-assessment checklist, Nazaha coordinated with the relevant national authorities and non-governmental organizations, making it a participatory process.
At the end of the Country Visit, the visiting experts thanked Nazaha and representatives of the national authorities for their readiness, good organization of work, fruitful discussions and provision of additional information, data and statistics. They also extended their appreciation to Nazaha for its warm reception and hospitality.
