Kuwait Anticorruption Authority (Nazaha) stated that it has referred a supervisor at the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEW) to the Public Prosecution. Following its investigations, Nazaha has determined that there is suspicion of (1) forgery in officials documents as per Articles 257 and 259 of the Law No. 16 for 1960 on the Penal Code, and (2) facilitating the embezzlement of public funds as per Article 10 of Law No. 1 for 1993 on the Protection of Public Funds and Article 22 of Law No. 2 for 2016 on the Establishment of Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority.

Nazaha confirms that it will continue to combat corruption, avert its dangers and risks, and pursue its perpetrators as per Article 24 of its establishment law that states: “[Nazaha] shall, upon becoming aware of the existence of a suspicion of a corruption offence, collect information thereon, and may have, for that purpose, access to the records, papers and documents related to such offence. In addition, it may request to be provided with any relevant data, information or documents, and may decide to refer them to the competent judicial bodies.”

Nazaha also affirms that it shall keep up the efforts and procedures to collect inferences and conduct investigations on corruption crimes based on serious information that it receives. Furthermore, Nazaha highly values the role of whistleblowers who assist with information on corruption crimes. Nazaha is committed to providing them with the maximum levels of protection and confidentiality which are granted by the law.
