Kuwait Anticorruption Authority (Nazaha) has referred to the Public Prosecution a leader at the Municipal Council who is charged with committing a corruption crime. The person obtained papers that were available to him due to his duties and kept them in his sole possession. The referral comes in implementation of Article 9 of Law No. 1 of 1993 on the protection of public funds and Article 22(a) of Law No. 2 of 2016 on the establishment of Kuwait Anticorruption Authority.

Nazaha confirms that it will continue to combat corruption, avert its dangers and risks, and pursue its perpetrators as per Article 24 of its establishment law that states: “[Nazaha] shall, upon becoming aware of the existence of a suspicion of a corruption offence, collect information thereon, and may have, for that purpose, access to the records, papers and documents related to such offence. In addition, it may request to be provided with any relevant data, information or documents, and may decide to refer them to the competent judicial bodies.”

Nazaha also affirms that it shall keep up the efforts and procedures to collect inferences and conduct investigations on corruption crimes based on serious information that it receives through any channel.
