Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) held a lecture for students of the Faculty of Law to raise their awareness on integrity, transparency, and the risks of corruption.

One lecturer, Mr. Hussain Al-Sabagha from the Prevention Sector, gave a presentation on Nazaha’s mandate and its anticorruption measures. He spoke about the Prevention Sector, its units and departments, and its role in raising awareness and educating society. He further elaborated on Nazaha’s cooperation with civil society and governmental bodies—including by concluding memorandums of understanding. Mr. Al-Sabagha talked about the short stories Nazaha had published as well as the seminars, workshops, and meetings it organized. He also mentioned Nazaha’s participations in conferences and meetings internationally.

Ms. Sara Al-Hajeri presented an overview on the role of the Detection of Corruption and Investigation Sector. She explained what was considered a corruption crime and Nazaha’s role in receiving and investigating reports about these crimes, in addition to the role of whistleblowers. She added that Nazaha monitors the media to detect corruption crimes and offers protection for whistleblowers. She also explained the process of referring cases to the Public Prosecution.

As for the Financial Disclosure Sector, Mr. Omar Al-Derbas explained financial disclosures, the goals of submitting them, and their types (First Disclosure, Disclosure Update, Final Disclosure). He explained the steps for submitting the financial disclosure and the penalties for late/non-submission. He also spoke about inspecting the disclosures via the Inspection Committees and the confidentiality these disclosures enjoy.

The lecture was concluded by a discussion and Q&A session, with the participation of the member of Kuwait Bar Association and the Vice-Chair of Kuwait Lawyers Institute.
