Our functions

As per Article 5 of its establishment law, NAZAHA shall take charge of the following functions and terms of reference:

  1. To develop a comprehensive national strategy for integrity, transparency and anti-corruption, prepare its implementing mechanisms, plans and programs, and follow up its implementation with the concerned agencies.
  2. To receive and study reports, complaints and information submitted to it regarding corruption offences, and when ascertained that they constitute a suspicion of a crime, they shall be referred to the competent investigating authority.
  3. To receive statements of financial disclosure and create committees to examine them.
  4. To protect whistleblowers in coordination with the competent authorities.
  5. To advise the competent authorities in order to take the necessary legal action to rescind any contract, to which the State is a party, or withdraw a concession or other engagements if found to be concluded in violation of the provisions of the laws or found to be implemented in violation of the concluded contract with the coordination of the competent authorities. 
  6. To follow up actions and measures undertaken by competent authorities to recover funds and proceeds resulting from corruption offences.
  7. To periodically study legislations and legal instruments related to the fight against corruption and propose the necessary amendments thereof to keep pace with international conventions and treaties ratified or acceded to by Kuwait, develop the necessary measures for the prevention of corruption and update mechanisms and methods thereof in coordination with State agencies.
  8. To coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with respect to cooperation with States and Gulf, Arab and international organizations related to anti-corruption, participate in programs aimed at preventing corruption, and represent Kuwait at regional, Arab and international conferences and forums related to anti-corruption.
  9. To study and assess reports from local, regional and international organizations related to anti-corruption, review the status of Kuwait therein and take appropriate action towards them.
  10. To coordinate with mass media in order to educate and make the community aware of the risks of corruption, corrupt practices and their effects and how to prevent and fight against them.
  11. To adopt the necessary measures to ensure the participation of civil society organizations in educating about the risks of corruption and its effects on society and expand the role of society in anti-corruption activities and the fight against it.
  12. To request the competent authorities to investigate incidents of financial and administrative corruption, uncover violations and irregularities and collect evidence related to thereof.
  13. To develop databases and information systems and exchange information with other agencies and organizations concerned with corruption issues inside and abroad in accordance with the legislation in force.
  14. To request the competent authorities to implement the necessary administrative and civil actions.
  15. To refer incidents involving suspicions of criminal offenses to the competent investigating authority accompanied by all documents.
  16. Any other functions or terms of reference assigned to it that are consistent with its establishment purposes.
